ICT Education unit of the Sarvodaya fusion organized its first Diploma in Computer Application (DICA) certificate award ceremony at the auditorium of Sarvodaya Vishva Samadhi, Moratuwa on 07th November 2009 for those who successfully completed the DICA Course conducted from January to July 2009. The event was felicitated by the chief guest Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, Executive Director of Sarvodaya Shramadana sangyamaya. More than 100 participants were awarded the certificate for successfully completing the course while 11 earned the best students medals. A participant from Muthur (S. Husain) achieved the 1st in order of merit in the ceremony and a participant from Kurunegala (Santhusha Jayathilake) achieved the best Exam Coordinators prize.
Manager of Sarvodaya Fusion, Mr. Isura Silva presented a speech based on his own experience which enlightened the audience. Having distributed the medals for best students, the chief guest made a short and fascinating speech about the objective of Sarvodaya sramadana Sangyamaya and the Mission of the Sarvodaya Fusion’s tally with that objective. Furthermore, he stated that Sarvodaya is planning a programme which find job opportunities for students who has passed the examination. Speaking on the Ceremony, Mr. J K Perera from ICTA was apriciatating of the ground work which Sarvodaya fusion does to the rural community and another special guest of Mr. D D prabath, the in charge of the DICA resource pool was mentioning about the staff of Sarvodaya Fusion is very less but the task which they do with the Grassrootss is huge. Other than them, three exam coordinators (telecentre/nenasalas) from Anuradhapura,Muthur & Kurunagala and three best students (telecentre/nenasalas)from Colombo,Ampara & Muthur were sharing about their experience & feelings of the the DICA examination process at the village level. Also present on the ceremony and awarding certificates were Professor Gihan Dias – Head of IT, Dr.Sanath Jayasena from University of Moratuwa & Mr.Ravindra Ariyawickrama – Deputy Manager of Sarvodaya Fusion. After the vote of thanks by the Business Development Executive, the floor was opened for reception and the batch photograph.
For the ceremony, around 50 Parents were participated to see their children’s performance and nine ICTES exam coordinators (Ampara, Anuradhapura, Colombo, Kurunegala, Matara, Matale, Muthur,Nuwaraeliya,Trincomalee) and some more telecentre operators and their instructors also participated.
Our Objective of the first DICA certificate award ceremony was to encourage our telecentre students & telecentre operators and to feel them the foundation that they have kept the first step is very strong & standard.
Due to excessive demands for the ICT Education Services, Sarvodaya Fusion had to design three exams per year for students who are above grade 10, school leavers & office staff. we are progressing with next DICA examination for island wide telecentre students on November 2009 & March 2010.
